Productive partnerships between Warrington Collegiate, Jobcentre Plus and Employers Gets Britain Working

Jordan gets into work with a little help from a flexible new programme ‘Get Britain Working’

19 year old Jordan Sutcliffe, from Padgate, is celebrating his success after taking part in Get Britain Working resulted in a full-time job and apprenticeship with Pure Waterwash Ltd.

Jordan was identified through ‘Get Britain Working’, a flexible new programme involving close partnership working with Warrington Collegiate, JobCentrePlus and Employers. Warrington Collegiate delivers the training which is a tailored provision through dialogue with the employer.

A delighted Jordan explained “After becoming unemployed I went to JobCentre Plus and they found me 8 weeks work experience with Pure WaterWash  Ltd. Following the 8 weeks Chris Wilson, Owner of Pure Waterwash Ltd, based in Woolston, decided to take me on as an apprentice after talking about the benefits of the apprenticeship scheme with Warrington Collegiate.

Pam Collacott, Curriculm Manager for Apprenticeships in Cleaning says, “After talking to Pure Waterwash  Ltd we were able to mix and match the units so that the apprenticeship is specific to the employer’s  needs.  Jordan is a keen, motivated young man who will be an asset to Pure Waterwash.”

Jane Sutton, Customer Service Operations Manager from Jobcentre Plus, commented that Jordan’s initial training can count towards the apprenticeship saying “The work experience programme provides young people, like Jordan, with the chance to gain real experience of what it’s like to work full-time.   It helps to build their confidence, skills and experience as well as giving them the edge over others in the labour market.”

Jordan’s programme involves him working for four days a week and spending one day a week studying with Warrington Collegiate. He has already gained his numeracy qualification and is now embarking on a literacy qualification, as well as working towards the technical certificate and NVQ components of the Apprenticeship. It is estimated that Jordan will probably complete his apprenticeship programme within 12 months, quicker than was originally anticipated.

Jordan says “I love being outside so this job really suits me. I have gained a lot of confidence working for Pure Waterwash Ltd and it’s such a friendly environment. I’ve already got my Cherry Picking licence as we clean windows in high level buildings as well as ordinary houses. It’s really great being able to work with a small company, not only getting training for the job but  also learning about how a small business works.”

Owner of Pure Water Wash Ltd, Chris said “It’s not just about cleaning windows. Jordan has been learning about the equipment and the detergents we use as well as Health and Safety and how to deal with the public. He’s a very polite young man, a good apprentice and gets the job done properly.

Pure Water Wash Limited specialises in using filtered water for cleaning including windows, frames, buildings, gutters and high level work. Chris has developed a range of specialist equipment including a unique Hot Water Trolley System with a capacity of 240 litres which has the advantage of not freezing up in extreme cold weather.

In the future Chris hopes that Jordan will be able to take a bigger role in the company, learning all the aspects of running your own business.
